My True Ancestry Review
Hello - I wanted to provide my review and experience with the website www.mytrueancestry.com. I was especially intrigued by the description, as I am very interested and excited by ancient peoples, civilizations and archeology.
I would start out by saying that I really loved this experience, and think I got a lot out of it. While I can not possibly justify paying for one more service, this is one service that I could really see the benefit of the paid memberships. While some of the tiers get really expensive, the names for the various levels just add to the really cool subversive experience they are trying to create.
When my report was finished (it went super fast) I was able to see my Ancient Populations, Ancient Sample Results, and Deep Dive Results. Each tab has many other tabs within it that you can play with and get more information from.
My Ancient Populations: Franks, Danish Vikings, Visigoths, Celts and Saxons. It gave an additional breakdown but I will have to look into the specifics of what these numbers mean: Viking Danish + Frank (7.683), Viking Danish + Visigoth (7.827, Visigoth + Celt (7.881), Celt + Frank (7.979), Visigoth + Frank (8.575), Frank (9.566), Visigoth (9.566), Celt (10.07), Viking Danish (10.12), and Saxon (10.57). I am assuming the greater the number, the greater the match, but for the individual matches the opposite is true.
What is wildly exciting is the Map that comes with these results:
How cool is this!! You also get. a breakdown of your ancient samples, and ancient samples by era.
Then comes the really fun part - the Ancient Matches! Since I didn't do the paid version, some result are hidden and some have a drop down with more information. I would love to take advantage of this feature, and especially the part for paid users where you get to see more research linked to these matches.
The matches that have more information look like these:
You can also look at your samples by Era, and even see ancient relatives (paid version).
Then comes the stuff for super nerds, you can do the chroma analysis and look at DNA segments and the ancient ethnic match. There's a DNA spider chart for: genetic closeness, Total SNP, Longest SNP, and more.
Downsides: the only downsides I experienced besides wishing I were a paid member is that your Analysis Summary or DNA Report expires 58 hours from when you upload your DNA. Make sure to do this on a day where you have plenty of time.
I saw many reviews online where people were skeptical about an anonymous organization running this site, you can research for yourself. I was comfortable using the site, but everyone is different.
Happy researching!
